Met Gala 2019 : Top Looks

So, let’s skip formalities because I’m pretty sure we ALL know of the Met Gala – some of us even dream of being invited – not that we’d have the slightest clue what to wear, who to wear and how to wear it, but that’s why it’s called dreaming.

For those who are unfamiliar, each year the best of the best – whether it be in fashion, art or music – come together to attend our favourite fashion fundraising event and deliver iconic looks in accordance with that year’s theme.

This years theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” Anna Wintour summed this extravagant theme up perfectly by saying “basically, we go from sun kings to drag queens.” Will there ever be a year where we don’t love the theme?

Looking at outfits from the night, the variety is what has my heart beating fast, from basic to boisterous – our fave celebs and designers did not disappoint.

From Janelle Monae and her hat galore to Jared Leto giving us Game of Thrones couture, take a look at my critiques on some iconic looks.

Lady Gaga isn’t someone I particularly pay great attention to in terms of serving looks or music but, with her history of controversial and over the top outfits I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting this. She served FOUR different looks by ONE designer and each and every one was a yes for me.

From an exaggerated pink dress she stripped to a simple black formal gown, then to a sexy pink slip dress and ended up in her sparkly underwear! A+ for execution.

If you know me you know I love KKW.

There isn’t a look of hers to date that I didn’t fall in love with at the time (excluding her first Met Gala appearance in that atrocious floral Givenchy gown) but even I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed this year. I think I’m waiting for Kim to really step out of her comfort zone and give us an iconic look instead of distracting us with skin tight dresses to cover up the fact she didn’t stick to the theme.

Predictability aside – her waist is non-existent and she is dripping in diamonds so how could I not love this look anyway!

Kinky Boot’s Billy Porter did not come to play with us honey! From entrance to outfit Billy honestly killed it for me.

Covered in gold and bringing the camp theme to life in the most flamboyant way possible it was quite literally impossible to outshine Billy. You can definitely tell he is in his comfort zone and he’s shown us not only is this what he does but he does it very well!

Jared Leto wearing Gucci

King of Accessorising – who else do you know who drops their couture purse for a severed head?

Stepping outside the box is something I’m all for at the Met and Leto did not let us down! Despite Jared telling us this look was inspired by Gucci’s recent runway I get pure Game of Throne’s vibes! Literally Cersei’s gown meets Ned Starks head and I’m loving it!

Sidenote – he outdid most of the other guys at the gala – you know, the ones who are too frightened they may damage their toxic masculinity – with his outfit alone so bonus points!
