I know it’s been ages now since Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty and when it first dropped I knew my bank account was going to hate me. Not only was RiRi giving us 50 different shades of the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, but as a black woman and constant advocate for inclusion, I knew she would not disappoint us ladies of colour. That was until I realised my hometown didn’t even have a Harvey Nichols. Gutted wasn’t the word.
However, Boots recently partnered with Fenty and I think we all went into a frenzy. Furthermore, I’ve been stuck with tinted moisturiser for months now so, you can only imagine my excitement when I saw that the Nottingham store was going to have it in stock! Without hesitation, I visited Boots in the city centre. Finding the perfect shade was my first priority so I popped over to one of the lovely MUA’s to get matched. About 20 minutes and 8 shades later, we actually found I matched two shades (this never happens to me.) The first shade matched my skin so well – it looked like I didn’t even have makeup on. The second shade was slightly darker and gave me more of a bronzed glow (shade 235). Ultimately, with summer rearing its head – the second option was the obvious choice
The Pro Filt’r Foundation is described as “a soft matte long wear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage. Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. ” The product cost me £27 from Boots and comes in a frosty glass bottle with a pump. It is in stock in the UK in Boots and Harvey Nichols.
Aforementioned, finding my shade was a little tricky but, only because I have a really awkward skin tone to match. The shade finder, however, did give me an idea of where to start. It’s definitely an amazing tool for those who can typically find their shade with ease – RiRi really had our backs on this one.
Whilst getting matched, it was evident that the shade darkens once the foundation is dry. Therefore, when swatching, wait around a minute before making a decision – luckily the foundation dries really quickly so no need to worry about hanging around for ages! Furthermore, if you are stuck between two shades you’re probably going to be better off going for the lighter one.
Despite being medium coverage, this foundation definitely exceeded my expectations. I usually find that medium coverage needs building up a lot for me to get my desired finish. Fenty Beauty didn’t do that and two pumps were more than enough for a full face. To apply the product I reached for my Ecotools Angled Foundation Brush and spread the product evenly. Then, grabbing my Morphe Flat Buffer Brush – which you can purchase here. I quickly blended the foundation into my skin. One thing about this foundation which I mentioned earlier is that it dries QUICK. I’m talking like 50 seconds so, put that arm to work!
Now, you’re all going to think I’m exaggerating because when I read beauty reviews, I tend to think the same but, I kid you not – this foundation feels sooooo light! I couldn’t believe it. It doesn’t matter how much you build up the coverage either, it does not weigh your face down. After the foundation set, I could not get over how perfect it was. It literally gives you what it says – a smooth shine-free finish,
As someone who has combination skin that leans more towards oily – this foundation is the perfect match. It gives a matte look without looking dry and cakey – which tends to happen when I try other matte foundations. Furthermore, at the end of the day, the foundation is still perfectly in place, with or without setting powder. As I mentioned, my skin is more on the oily side so I can’t say how well this would work for those with dry skin, unfortunately!
Lastly, for my gym babes – can you believe this foundation stays in place after a heavy leg/HIIT session? No? Well, it does! I hate working out in makeup but when I hit the gym straight from work it happens. I couldn’t believe it when I looked in the mirror at the thousands of drops of sweat and I could still see the foundation underneath perfectly in place. Let’s just say, I won’t be trying or buying a foundation that isn’t Fenty anytime soon.
So there you have it, if you’re like me and have oily dominant combination skin – this foundation will change your life! Personally, for me, the formula and result of this product get 10 out of 10. Have you tried Fenty? Drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts about it – I’d love to hear from you.
